The Best Weighted Blanket for Anxiety and Stress Relief

At Huggaroo, we are totally dedicated to giving you the best. We are absolute perfectionists and you can see this and experience it in our products. When we state that we have made the best-weighted blanket for anxiety on the market, we mean it with every fiber of our being. We’ve put many hours of hard work into creating blankets which are beautiful, durable, practical, and easy to care for, perfecting our design based on our experience and our customers’ feedback, evaluating and choosing the best materials, and ensuring that every single batch of our blankets is made perfectly and up to our high standard. We never cut corners. And it shows!
Surely you’ve heard of the phrase ‘security blanket’ before. It comes from the sense of comfort we have when wrapped up in the familiar. The reason young children feel safer when they have their security blankets with them is that it reminds them of their bed and the safety they feel there. In the same way, a weighted blanket makes us feel protected because it draws up memories of the warmth and safety of being held by someone who cares for us.

Weighted blankets are an excellent aid to people with anxiety because they help to naturally lower stress hormones that cause anxious feelings. This is achieved through deep pressure stimulation, a kind of physical therapy that encourages the body to naturally switch over to using the parasympathetic nervous system – the system we activate when we relax. The Huggaroo blanket is the best-weighted blanket for anxiety because it tells the body to stop making so many stress hormones and instead switch to producing relaxing and soothing chemicals like dopamine and serotonin – the chemicals we produce when we are happy and safe.

In many ways, having anxiety can feel like having a body that is out of sync with the mind. Anxiety symptoms result in an overactive ‘flight or fight’ mode, meaning that even when we logically know there is no danger, we still feel the need to escape it. This is stressful and keeps the body too busy to rest or sleep at night. If left unchecked for too long, it can even cause anxiety and panic attacks where our body tricks our mind into believing we are in danger, and the two feed each other in an endless loop. Weighted blankets put a stop to such loops and prevent those loops from starting in the first place by helping the mind leave the ‘flight or fight’ state, essentially resynchronizing your body with your mind. Essentially, they take your mind back to a place where you feel safe and secure.

We designed our first weighted blanket for children. Many parents who saw the beneficial effects of our blankets on their children asked us to make adult blankets too. And so we did, creating larger weighted blankets to help adults facing anxiety as well. We now make weighted blankets of two different weights and sizes. Our 7 lbs weighted blankets are best for younger children, generally ages three to ten or so, who weigh between 30 and 90 lbs. These blankets are a great fit for twin and full-sized beds. For children weighing over 70 lbs, teenagers, and adults, we recommend our 15 lb weighted blankets. These blankets are bigger and great for a full-sized or queen-sized bed.

We strived to make the best weighted blanket for anxiety. The duvet cover of every Huggaroo blanket is made of extra soft minky or chenille fabric, while the inner weighted quilt is made of 100% cotton. We achieve the weighted effect using carefully placed hypoallergenic glass microbeads or polypropylene pellets in small, square pockets spaced evenly throughout the inner quilt. Our design keeps these beads perfectly spaced so that the weight of the blanket is always evenly distributed throughout. Strategically-positioned strong ties and loops secure the weighted quilt to the duvet cover, keeping the weighted quilt in place. You’ll never have an issue of bunching or of the inner weight shifting all to one side. Based on your feedback, our latest model children’s weighted blankets are single-piece blankets. The weighted quilt is permanently sewn to the duvet cover, eliminating the need to assemble or disassemble the blanket and ensuring a perfectly distributed weight forever. Of course, these new blankets are still machine washable! Being parents ourselves, we know how busy and hectic life can be. For this reason, we had to make all our blankets machine washable and easy to care for.

For the summer months and for families living in warmer climates, where having a thick and heavy blanket just isn’t feasible, we created the Huggaroo Pouch. The Huggaroo Pouch is a special compression bedsheet that works as an alternative to weighted blankets. Rather than being a thick, heavy quilt, the Huggaroo Pouch is a cool and breathable, strong and stretchy compression sheet. It applies deep pressure therapy through gentle, elastic compression rather than through heavy weight, achieving a similar effect without the overwhelming warmth. Kids love playing, relaxing, and sleeping in the Huggaroo Pouch. It’s just so much fun! Many parents have told us that the Huggaroo Pouch has been a total game-changer for their families, converting their reluctant sleepers to children who look forward to going to bed and no longer wake up in the middle of the night. In addition, the Huggaroo Pouch prevents young children from rolling out of bed while asleep. The nylon spandex blend sheet is, of course, machine washable, and available in both twin and full-size options.

In addition to making the best weighted blanket for anxiety, we also make other wellness products such as weighted lap pads, perfect for helping focus the mind and relax the body while you’re working, and hot and cold wraps to soothe aches and migraines. We love and use our products daily ourselves. We are certain that you’ll find them just as relaxing and soothing as we do. If you ever have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We love talking to our customers and helping you find the best product for your family’s needs.
